Bio‐geomorphic alteration through shifting flow regime in a modified monsoonal river system in Korea

چکیده

River processes and patterns are affected by changes in the watershed driven natural human-induced causes. A sudden pattern alteration from a “white river” (bare soils) to “green (vegetated) influences riverine biodiversity can increase flood risk. Despite these significant impacts, knowledge on triggers that kickstart feedback exacerbating bio-geomorphic is insufficient. In this study, we collected analyzed detailed monitoring data sandy, hydro-morphologically active, monsoon-driven river Korea. The surface area covered vegetation has been increasing; intensified after 2014–2015 drought, which provided window of opportunity for establishment. During pioneer densely colonized bare sandbars temporarily exposed riverbed. partial rejuvenation several subsequent floods, succession woody occurred, resulting stable cover. Narrowing incision low-water channel secondary channels formed inside floodplain. results study show rapid triggered shifts flow regime primed changes. Furthermore, modified rivers might be brink similar bio-physical alterations through shifting following climate change, leading increased risk impacts endemic biodiversity.

A New Changeable Bioreactor for Detection of Organophosphate in a Flow-Through System

A flow-through biosensor consisting of a fixed bed bioreactor was employed to detect the insecticideparaoxon. Based on the inhibition of organophosphorous insecticide to the enzymatic activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), using paraoxon as a model compound, the condition for detection of the insecticide were optimized. The influence of enzyme loading on the packing surface was studied ...

River Rehabilitation for Conservation of Fish Biodiversity in Monsoonal Asia

Freshwater biodiversity is under threat worldwide, but the intensity of threat in the Oriental biogeographic region of tropical Asia is exceptional. Asia is the most densely populated region on Earth. Many rivers in that region are grossly polluted, and significant portions of their drainage basins and floodplains have been deforested or otherwise degraded. Flow regulation has been practiced fo...
